A Trojan horse is a computer program that on the outside seems to be harmless to the computer but within it contains harmful programs that can cause a wreck to the computer hard drive. Trojan horses are usually hidden in programs and are disguised as fun programs such as games, so that whenever the game, is launched, the malicious code contained within is executed and could cause serious damage

Trojan horses can be sent by email attachment. Whenever an unsuspecting person open the email attachment, it would appear as if nothing has happened to the naked eye but in the background the malicious Trojan horse has installed or executed itself to carry out the havoc.

One of the worst dangers of Trojan horse is that a hacker can use Trojan horse as a remote control tool that run stealthily on your system. As soon as the Trojan horse is installed, it informs the hacker of the vulnerabilities on your system and the hacker may then remote control your computer, install programs on it, delete your files or do whatever he wants with your system.

In 2000, Microsoft operating systems suffer a lot of wreckage from Trojans horses when they exploit a security flaw in the computer operating system. They infected notepad applications and spread themselves through the network to affect other computers connected on the network. Once a computer is infected, the hacker can gain access to the source code. These Trojans also rewrote the system registry so that everytime the computer boots the Trojans is reloaded back into the computer. It was very difficult to get rid of them.

To protect yourself against this malicious program, care must be taken. It is very important you have reliable Trojan horse software running and up to date on your computer. Trojans are as dangerous as a virus, so the same effort you use to fight a virus should not be different from the effort you use to fight a Trojan horse
